Island Beauty!!!

Give me clean beauty any day! I saw Jamaican photographer Dexter Smith’s work on instagram and was drawn to his clean and vivid photography style. I contacted him about us collaborating on a bridal beauty/portrait shoot and was elated when he agreed.

Colour was the focus of this shoot as we wanted to capture the vivid colours of the Jamaican landscape to create an ‘island girl’ feel. The location of this shoot was ‘The Chapel Gardens’ at the University of the West Indies - Mona, a popular wedding location in Jamaica noted for its colonial elegance. To incorporate color into the styling, I decided to use my creative abilities to make a DIY floral crown. I pulled an ‘all-nighter’ to create my master piece and was very pleased with the outcome. Our model for the day was Ayuana Dixon a past student of mine. She had no prior modelling experience but with Dexter’s excellent coaching and her instinct she was a natural.

It was a challenge shooting in the HOT Jamaican summer sun but I used my makeup artist skills acquired by experience in this climate to paint some clean makeup looks which could stand up to the heat. I love me some Blush and used Blusher to unify the colours in the floral crown with the overall makeup look. I choose a red blush that looked amazing on our models warm skin.
